Hi,
I am construction a Virtual Tour in Flash. The goal is to give the feeling of touring a nature sanctuary. A problem I find with most virtual tours, is they don't allow you to get a feel for the layout of what you are exploring. Here is my wish list of interface features.
- Panorama screen - as large as possible with rotation as smooth as possible
- Panorama controls. There are many different ways to do this, I would like to experiment until I found the one that was most natural. I kind of like click and drag and/or double click on a spot and it moves to center screen.
- Site Map - To help people orient themselves, a site map would constantl display that showed the position that the user if viewing from along with a cone showing the field of view (ie. zoom in would narrow the cone and zoom out would open it up.
- Motion along the ground. When moving from view point to viewpoint, I would like to construct a video that simulates moving along predetermined paths. This could be constructed from either a video or a series of stills taken at intervals along the path. Chosing the next viewpoint could either be done by selecting a hot spot on the panorama window or on the overhead map.
How does this sound? Sensible? Doable? If I had a viewer with programable access to view direction and field of vision, I think I could construct the interface.
