I was made aware of the new google browser, and gave it a try. It seems to work perfectly with FPP, but I would like to hear from others about their experiences with it.

Recently published google chrome browser: http://www.google.com/chrome?open

I like the way it feels, and the simplicity in the user interface. It isn't very different from Firefox at first glance... but of course it is googlized... with the potential of ad-spamming the users.

It wouldn't surprise me much if google will take over the browser market in a few years... or share it with Firefox.

For now the browser is only available to windows users.

Hey Tuddi,

my experience with Google Chrome is:

1. It's noticeably faster than Firefox, especially with Javascripts (since it has a new Javascript engine). For example, I found it opens lightboxes much faster than Firefox or Opera.

2. The fact that each tab has its own process (so that the browser won't crash if one tab crashes) is great.

3. I do not like its design. I find it a little too fanciful, somehow. And also personally I am not a fan of automatized actions like the user behavior based bookmarks or the search engine integration in the address bar. But anyway, that's just a question of personal taste, I guess.

The browser's well worth a try. The only thing that concerns me a little is the question about privacy; I tend to suspect Google (and any other big company) regarding these things. I think Google does not only want to establish a new browser, but a whole platform, leading towards cloud computing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_computing). Let's see where it's all going...

Regards, Ph.

The visual design of it is plain ugly. I'm not sure if I could come up with a nicer looking skin, but theirs is ugly (actually the first thing I wanted to check was the availability of a different skin)....

The privacy policy they have is very open ended, and in my opinion it offers anything BUT privacy.... but that's just how they have chosen to run their business. Hopefully they will consider offering people the choice of licensed versions of their products (for a fee)... where all their ad-stuff and collection of info will not be applied in any way or form.... but I doubt that will happen just because I want it

Google Chrome has one of the same errors as Safari.... in that it doesn't display posted messages in phpBB based forums (maybe only a version issue for the forums software?). If what I have been told is true, then both Safari and Google's browsers are built on the same source (webkit.org) ... therefore having some of the same problems.

they already have relationships. It's more of a re-written browser from the ground up for Google's future projects in terms of what was coined Google Desktop i guess. Running apps off the internet may just be the future like running Google Docs instead of MS Office. That will really take over not only the browser market but everything in between and how we'll work. It's still in its infancy stages, we'll know in time to come.

So it all came to an end for me. Firefox stopped working properly... displayed sites without graphics and was incredibly slow. Downloading/streaming with it was terribly slow... at max 170 kbps, while the same downloads would be downloaded at 12 times that speed (my ISP max connection speed). Moving the mouse inside a playing flv file in the browser would freeze the video.

Reinstalling FF did not help. Everything was the same. Uninstalling it through CP was not possible. Manual removal did the trick of removing it, but after installing it once again, it would not open at all. The Task Manager would show the firefox.exe kicking in for a split second, then it would be gone. Next thing I did was to use the System Restore function, going back several days (before installing Google Chrome)... and that did not help either. So I installed my latest image (Acronis True Image) of the system, and that made everything work correctly again.

The only thing I did, was manually deleting the cached FF files (same as "Temporary Internet Files" in IE) ... I don't think it should result in such a complete brake-down of the browser... the only other issue I suspect might be co-responsible, is the introduction of google chrome.

Anyone ever experienced something similar with FF?

Tuddi: I have not experienced any problems yet, having Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3, Opera 9 and Chrome installed. Maybe a particular issue with your very system? In other words: Hopefully Chrome won't crash all those Firefox browsers already in use :-)
