View Full Version : Jumping Hotspots - The Cure

I have several times come across posts where the issue of jumping/dancing hotspots has been brought up, and as far as I know, there hasn't been any real "cure" for this. I might be wrong, but think not.

During my testing of Flashificator, I got to the "cacheAsBitmap" check box, and that seems to hold the cure for the jumping/dancing of buttons if used in cooperation with qualityStatic and qualityMotion.

So adding ...

cacheAsBitmap="0"

...inside the properties of the hotspot and .......

qualityStatic = high
qualityMotion = high

or

qualityStatic = medium
qualityMotion = high

(or other more demanding settings)

........ inside the parameters section, there will be no dancing hotspots to entertain you.

Of course... I have to claim Flashificator as the only sensible cure for the dancing and jumping hotspots. I did a search for the whole domain (http://shortify.com/7586)to see if "cacheAsBitmap" had ever been mentioned... and it's not.

I know this will help... so enjoy!

Using the settings:

qualityMotion = medium
qualityStatic = medium

will stop all hotspots from jumping, regardless of any other settings. Using qualityMotion = medium uses a lot of CPU though, and on less powerful computers this will cause the panorama to "stagger" when panned.

If using qualityMotion = low, the correct combination of the hotspot dimensions and placement will keep them locked in place. Having even dimensions and placing them on odd staticX and staticY values seems to work for me.

Well... to see is to believe (unless it's been made in photoshop or FOX news) they say.

Here I am using the standard UNEVEN pixeled images from FPP (71x71 pixels).

qualityMotion = medium
qualityStatic = low

... and you are welcome to guess which button has been given

cacheAsBitmap="0"

There IS movement in both, but radically more on the one without the cacheAsBitmap="0" ... which of course means that it does work to reduce movement of the spots.

Using the settings:

qualityMotion = medium
qualityStatic = medium

will stop all hotspots from jumping, regardless of any other settings. .

Not quite so.

Here is the same pano with

qualityMotion = medium
qualityStatic = medium

And there is still much more movement in the one without

cacheAsBitmap="0"

I have no reason to doubt that your method:

If using qualityMotion = low, the correct combination of the hotspot dimensions and placement will keep them locked in place. Having even dimensions and placing them on odd staticX and staticY values seems to work for me.

works... but this sure as heck works too.... So applying it on top of your method (with qualityMotion = low) might be a good move?

Hi Tuddi.

I presumed you were referring to the jumping that can happen with static hotspots.

I couldn't see it to begin with, but yes, when you move the panorama the cached hotspot is definately less jumpy - thanks for the tip.

Cheers,
